This was a great chance to remove a bunch of debris, as well for Pt. Gamble Tribe members, staff, and a host of community friends to get better acquainted in the process.
Among the debris collected were several tires, a whole wheelbarrow full of glass, a fishing net & cable, and pieces of concrete. Some materials too heavy to be removed were flagged for removal with equipment later.
The fish on the shovel, as explained to me by an elder, is a "grunt" fish--named for the sound it make if you touch it. Good eating & prepared by boiling. The bottom of the piece of concrete upturned for the photo is covered by eggs of the two grunt fish found under that piece of concrete. The concrete was laid back down to allow the incubation to run it's course.
